Film News: Asian Pop-Up Cinema Season 4 Begins in Chicago with ‘Survival Family,' Mar. 1, 2017

CHICAGO– What defines success? How about another Season, the Fourth, for the Asian Pop-Up Cinema Festival in Chicago. The premiere themed fest will kick off its 2017 Spring Season run with Shinobu Yaguchi’s “Survival Family” on Wednesday, March 1st, 2017, at the AMC River East Theatre in downtown Chicago. ‘Survival Family,’ Directed by Shinobu Yaguchi, Kicks Off Season Four of Asian Pop-Up Cinema

The Asian Pop-Up Cinema series – founded by Chicago film program veteran Sophia Wong Boccio – is a revolving showcase of diverse Asian films, with China, Hong Kong, Inner Mongolia, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Tibet and Vietnam all represented for the 2017 Spring Season, in films with English subtitles. Screenings occur at theAMC River East 21 in downtown Chicago, the Wilmette Theater in Wilmette, Illinois, and various locations (including free screenings). Asked about the new season, Asian Pop-Up Cinema Founder Sophia Boccio Wong told HollywoodChicago.com, “It is our pleasure to present our fourth season of diverse, contemporary Asian films in Chicago. Our mixed-genre film festival includes 18 works – with many premieres and gems never shown before on the big screen in the United States. To include a broader audience, ten films this season will be free and open to the public.”

Season Four of the Asian Pop-Up Cinema series kicks off with the U.S. premiere of “Survival Family” on Wednesday, March 1st, 2017, at 7pm. The film is directed by Shinobu Yaguchi.
